The present book is an abridged version of the author’s doctoral dissertation submitted to the Nagpur University in 1983. It is a novel work in the field of mathematics education. It is also a premier thesis in India involving two important models of teaching in the information processing family developed by Bruce Joyce and Marsha Weil, namely, Ausubel’s Advance Organizer Model and Bruner,s Concept Attainment Model.
The researcher has compared the two models on the various criteria of concept-acquisition in mathematics and brought forth a few valuable conclusiomns.The researcher’s is characterised by discovery of new facts and bears ample evidence of researcher’s profound scholarship, his capacity for critical thinking and sound judgment.
