It gives me great pleasure to present this textbook, Cell Biology, prepared for S.Y. B.Sc. Zoology Semester III – S3MJ3, University of Mumbai, as per the NEP 2020 syllabus. The book has been designed to give undergraduate students a clear, systematic and student friendly understanding of the basic principles of cell biology.
Cell biology is a fundamental branch of life sciences, as the cell forms the structural and functional unit of all living organisms. This textbook introduces students to important concepts such as cell theory, prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, plasma membrane, nucleus, mitochondrion, endomembrane system, peroxisomes, cytoskeletal structures and cell division. The content has been arranged in accordance with the prescribed syllabus and presented in a simple manner to support effective learning.
