Dr. Amitha Sehgal

Dr. Amitha Sehgal is an Associate Professor, Department of Commerce & Management at R.A. Podar College of Commerce & Economics. She has been a faculty since 1984. A Doctor of Philosophy, 2011 (S.N.D.T. University, Welingkar Centre) and a Master of Philosophy, 1990 (University of Mumbai); she is also a visiting faculty at Prin. L.N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research since 1996. She was Associate Dean, Finance at Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research (on lien from Podar for two years), where she set up the Banking Department as a super-specialization.A writer of business and banking, she has published articles in The Hindu Business Line, The Economic Times, Knowledge@Wharton, and several research publications. She has also presented research papers at IBA organised Bank Economists Conferences, IIM (Bangalore and Kolkata), Fordham University, amongst others. She was the Guest Co-editor (India) for a special issue on Corporate Disclosure and Governance in India published in the India Issue of the International Journal of Disclosure & Governance by the international publishing house of Palgrave Macmillan.Her paper was selected for an "Outstanding Research Award" at the International Research Conference, at the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management. At present, she is studying the problems of financial inclusion of Urban Self-Employed Women in the Informal Sector, with a Research Grant from The University Grants Commission. She has been a Lead Trainer, Directors Programme Corporate Governance & Ethics, Dun & Bradstreet.  As the Hon. Jt. Secretary of All-India Bank Depositors Association, she works at banking policy initiatives and banks customer education.A certified yoga teacher, she is an Advaitin following the teachings of her Guru Pujya Swami Dayananda Saraswati (Anaikatti) and Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharishi.
