Dr. Bhalchandra L. Mungekar, vice-Chancellor, University of Mumbai, is one of India`s leading agricultural economists as well as an influential social thinker and reformist. He has held several academic positions with distinction including the CAS Chair in Economics (University of Mumbai); Member, Governing Council, Indian Council of Cultural Relations, New Delhi; Founder-President, Dr.Ambedkar Institute of Social and Economic Change; Founder Vice-President, Academic Forum; amongst other positions of eminence. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to Indian agriculture, he was appointed Member, Agricultural Prices Commission, Government of India in 1999. He has served on several official committees at national and state levels, and was invited by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 1997 to visit the People`s Republic of China. His contributions to economoics and sociology have spanned several professional journals, monographs and books.
