Dr. S. V. Nadkarni

Dr. S.V. Nadkarni was entirely educated in Pune and passed M.S. in 1960. Throughout these years, he was influenced by socialist and Gandhian economics. Immediately, he got appointed at Mangalore in the private Kasturba Medical College as Reader. The college being attached to a district Hospital, the facilities were worse; yet the team carried out excellent work. He shifted to Panaji, Goa in 1967 where too facilities were meagre; the blood bank 5 miles away. Yet Dr. Nadkarni performed every major operation. That convinced him that so much modern equipment is not needed.
So when he became professor at L.T.M. Med. College at Sion in Mumbai, he established a TRAUMA CENTRE AT ALMOST NO ADDITIONAL COSTS where trauma cases were treated within 5 minutes on arrival.
