Dr. Sharmila Jayant Virkar has excellent academic record of topping HSC Board, B.A. and M.A. examinations. She has been teaching Philosophy at the Department of Philosophy, K.J. Somaiya College of Arts & Commerce, Mumbai (1991-2013) and at the Dept. of Philosophy, University of Mumbai (2013 onwards). With UGC Fellowship, she has obtained the Degree of Ph.D. in 2007. She has worked as a Chairperson of Research Ethics Committee, Hindustan Unilever Ltd., Bangalore for six years. She was a Member of Executive Council of "Maharashtra Tattvajnana Parishad" for two terms (2001-2008). She has presented papers in seminars and conferences at regional, national and international level for the last three decades at the centenary of Satyagraha in South Africa (2006), Greece (2011) and U.S. (2007). She has published several articles online and offline. Three students have completed research leading to Ph.D. and three M.Phil. Two more are on the verge of completion. She is associated with the updation of Marathi Vishwakosha. Maharashtra Tattvajnana Parishad has felicitated her with Ideal Teacher Award named "Pracharya Shivajirao Bhosale Adarsha Shikshak Puraskar" in November, 2018. "Dr. Suryakant Ghugare Award" for the Best Research during the year has been conferred on 1st October, 2021 by Maharashtra Tattvadnyan Parishad in its 37th session at Palghar for her book entitled "Critical Evaluation of the Gītā-Rahasya" published by Himalaya Publishing House.
