This book, A Glimpse of Bharatiya Gyan Parampara in Mandsaur Plant Diversity, presents a thoughtful exploration of the rich plant diversity of Mandsaur through an integrated perspective of Bharatiya Gyan Parampara and modern botanical science. Prepared in a simple, systematic, and reader-friendly manner, it is designed for students under the New Education Policy (NEP) as well as for teachers, researchers, and nature-loving readers.
Based on extensive fieldwork and the author’s experience in preparing People’s Biodiversity Registers (PBRs), the book documents 348 plant species belonging to 86 families. Each plant is described with its local name, scientific name, growth habit, height, flowering and fruiting period, and traditional uses, presented in clear and informative tables. Colourful illustrations further assist in accurate plant identification and understanding.
Beyond scientific classification, the book highlights the cultural, medicinal, religious, and traditional significance of plants in everyday Indian life. It reflects how plants have long been connected with food, health, rituals, and spiritual practices, thereby preserving the ecological wisdom of our ancestors.
Serving both as a regional floristic record and a bridge between traditional knowledge and contemporary education, this book invites readers to rediscover the living green heritage of Mandsaur and to appreciate the enduring relevance of India’s plant-based knowledge traditions.
