The book ‘A Journey from Shadow to Light’ is an autobiography of Laishram Ladusingh born to poor parents in a remote village in Manipur who overcome poverty and scary injury in childhood and rose to become head of institution of International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai and Vice-Chancellor of Bodoland University, Assam as an educationist. The autobiography is an account of building career from a humble beginning with roots in village life, moving forward with never surrendering spirit to complete education, sacrificing lucrative jobs to be academician and researcher and contributes to institution building at the cost of family comfort. The autobiography also underscores the essence and the importance of field work, teaching and research for a career in public health, demography and practising statistician. The narration in the autobiography highlights that research and publication on contemporary issues of public policies are key to securing research grants for furthering international collaboration and travel grants. The autobiography provides an imprint of the need for prioritisation of academic and administrative activities and implementation in mission mode for accomplishment of accreditation of new universities. The memoir ends with accounts of vacation of the author with family and living in extended happy family.
