Strategic Management is a process that involves an organisation’s activity in strategic planning and then acting on those plans. This provides a disciplined approach to managers for their meaningful operations. SM has two aspects to be followed. (i) Preparing for their meaningful and achievable activities to attain the organisation goal and (ii) implementing it efficiently and effectively. Meaningful and achievable aspect refers to the strategy to be adopted in the business for success. Designing a strategy is governed by the issues such as the sales of the enterprise, growth of the market for the company and absorption and generation of cash and its operations. Its goal is to strike a balance between business units that use cash and those that supply cash and formulating strategies for all functional (Finance, HRD, Marketing, Production, R&D) aspects of management and implement them for the success of the organization. Strategies have to be changed as and when business grows.
This subject Strategic Management is a subject of study in business education schools both at degree and posy-graduate levels.
