This book is about Institution Building in India not a thesis or a research study but the experiences of an innovative, determined and visionary academician who had the opportunity and the blessing to be associated with some of the best educational and training institutions in the country. It is an unpretentious narrative of architecting, building, rebuilding, repositioning or turning around institutions such as XIME-Bangalore, XLRI-Jamshedpur, IIM-Bangalore, Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS), Management Staff College of SAIL, Oberoi School of Hotel Management and a few others. The experiences chronicled here thus run the gamut from a Cheshire Home to one of the top IIMs of the country, to XLRI to XIME, to a staff college in a manufacturing industry to a training institute in hospitality industry and striking the high point with the founding and building of the Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS) the umbrella organization for the business schools of the country. All through these phases of a remarkable career, however, there is one overwhelming theme-that of vision, passion, perseverance and quality straddling the course of history of Indian Management Education itself in the decades covered by this book.
