This edition of the book is written according to the revised syllabus prescribed by University of Mumbai, for Third Year B.Sc., which is effective from academic year 2018-19.
A strong foundation in basics is given in reaction mechanism, catalysts and reagents. The IUPAC nomenclature of bicyclic compounds is covered in this edition. The various concepts of stereochemistry like chirality, selectivity, specificity, topicity and conformations have been clearly explained with number of examples. An introduction to chemistry of heterocyclic compounds is made in the edition.
The modern concepts of green chemistry, chiral synthesis and use of newer techniques like, ultrasound, microwaves and PTC have been introduced.
The basic concepts of spectroscopy are given with emphasis on structure determination using spectral data. In the chapter on polymers, basic terms are explained along with the importance of recycling polymer, biodegradable polymers and biomedical uses are covered. Finally, structure and functions of important bimolecules like carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, hormones, etc. are covered.
