98.00

We are pleased to present the First Edition of “NSS – Youth and Disaster Management” for the students of Second Year (All Programs), Semester IV at the University of Mumbai. This book is prepared according to the Revised Syllabus and the New Paper Pattern applicable from the academic year 2025–26, as per the NEP 2020 guidelines.

This book is designed to provide students with a foundational yet comprehensive understanding of disaster-related concepts. It introduces the meaning and types of disasters, both natural and manmade, and explains their impact on communities. Special emphasis is placed on the crucial role of youth in Disaster Risk Reduction, highlighting how young people can contribute to preparedness, mitigation, and timely response. The content also focuses on building community resilience through awareness, participation, and responsible action. By connecting theory with real-life applications, the book aims to empower students to become proactive and informed contributors to disaster management efforts.

A key part of this syllabus is the mandatory Semester IV project, where students independently or in groups conduct community-based work in adopted villages, slums, or neighbourhoods. Under the guidance of the NSS teacher-in-charge, they must prepare a project report and present it through a viva-voce. This practical component strengthens real-world learning, leadership, and civic responsibility.
