Communication Skills form the foundation of academic success, professional competence, and effective social interaction in the contemporary world. In an era shaped by rapid technological advancement, globalisation, and evolving workplace demands, the ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and appropriately has become an essential life skill. This book has been thoughtfully designed to address these needs by offering a balanced integration of theory and practice in English language communication.

The present book is based on the prescribed syllabus and is divided into two well-structured modules.

Module I introduces learners to the fundamentals of Communication Skills, with special reference to Indian English and Indianism, highlighting the unique features of English as used in the Indian context. It also explores the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the use of English, thereby connecting traditional language learning with modern digital practices. Emphasis is laid on Reading Skills and Listening Skills, which are crucial for academic growth. Topics such as reading for different purposes, study skills, elevator pitch, understanding language structures, note making, summarising, and listening strategies are presented through carefully selected texts and activities. The inclusion of passages from diverse genres such as fables, folk tales, non-fiction, business, history, and environmental studies ensures holistic language exposure.

Module II focuses on the productive skills of Speaking and Writing, which enable learners to express ideas effectively in real-life situations. Speaking skills are developed through practical components like conversation building, group discussions, and speaking at events, including anchoring, introducing guests, and proposing a vote of thanks. Formal Writing Skills are addressed through structured guidance on email writing for professional purposes and report writing, including news reports and activity or event reports. These sections are designed to prepare students for academic responsibilities as well as workplace communication.

This book aims to encourage learner participation through activities, examples, and practice-oriented exercises. It seeks to build confidence, clarity, and competence in the use of English, while also nurturing critical thinking and organisational skills. The content has been presented in a simple, systematic, and learner-friendly manner, making it suitable for undergraduate students.
