Biography
Arun Chatterjee
Arun Chatterjee has served the banking industry for 36 years in various capacities starting his career as a probationary officer with the State Bank of India (SBI) in 1966. In the SBI, while working in the Industrial Finance Department, Central Office, Mumbai, he initiated in 1972 the use of the cash flow system of credit appraisal and bank lending. He also headed the Rehabilitation Cell which was later spun off as a separate department. In the private sector banks, he has worked as senior executive, general manager and chairman. Later, for over 10 years he headed a Reserve Bank of India sponsored training and management institute for the financial sector. He provided crucial consultancy to the financial sector with regard to corporate restructuring, systems management, risk management, recovery of non-performing assets, drafting of bank security documents etc. From 2008 to 2015, he worked in international not-for-profit organisations in senior capacities. His passion for the environment made him campaign for clean air and renewable energy as the major source of clean energy in the coming decades. He has written several professional books which have become standard literature in their fields. The books have received positive response from the market and critics and have run into several editions. These books include Principles of Foreign Exchange, Management Techniques of Bank Lending, Bank Lending – Law and Practice, Recovery of Debts Through Tribunals, Securitisation, Reconstruction and Enforcement of Secured Debt, Credit Management – a Practical Approach etc. He has authored an important publication on Bank Lending for a commercial bank in Sri Lanka under the aegis of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance, Bombay. He has written articles and other material for the Press. During his spare time, he writes works of fiction, short stories, poetry etc., for a wide international audience. Presently, he is working as an independent Learning and Development Consultant for the BFSI and the Social Sectors.
