Dr. Govind D. Kalyankar
The author Dr.Govind D.Kalyankar, Ph.D (Biochemistry) was born in 1925. At a place at the base of fort Bhudargad then in Princely State of Kolhapur. After College education at Rajaram College Kolhapur did his Ph.D in 1954 at The Department of Biochemistry, Indian Institute of Science, Banglore. Later worked as Post Doctoral Fellow and Research Associate at the University of Texas, Austin; University of alifornia, Berkeley and Tufts University Medical School, Boston. Joined as Professor and Head of Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics. St.John`s Medical College, Bangalore and continued there till retirement in 1985, during 1981 to 1985 was Vice Dean of the Biochemistry Laboratories of the college and hospital. Later worked at S. Ramaih Medical College, Banglore till1988 and then two years at Al Arab Medical University Benghazi, Libya. During the above period has carried out research on the interrelationship between the metabolism of hormones of the adrenal cortex, vitamin B6 and Glucose in experimental animals. Has done some work on the metabolic changes again and the role of vitamin B6 in preventing glycoslyation of proteins in experimentally induced diabetic animals. He has guided students for their Ph.D.in Biochemistry and Published over 100 research papers in Indian and International Scientific Journals. As a result of this research his name has been included in : 1) The International WHO`S WHO of Intellectuals 7th Ed. 1987. 2) The Men of Achievement, 12th Ed. 1987. Both of these are published by the International Biographical Center, Cambridge, England.
