Giridhar Gomango

Shir. Giridhar Gomango (Born  1943) is presently a Member of the Union Council of Ministers holding Independent Charge as Ministry of Food Processing Industries. After graduation from S.K.C.G. College, Parlakhemundi, Ganjam district, Orissa, he served as a teacher before entering politics in 1972 during which year he got elected from koraput Parliamentory Constituency to the Fifth Lok Sabha. He has represented uninterruptedly the same constituency in the Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, Tenth Lok Sabha. He first became a member of the Union Council of Ministers in 1982 as Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Supply and Rehabilitation. Later, he was Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Welfare during 1985-88, Minister of State in the Ministry of Communications during 1988-89. Shri Gomango, was also the President of Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee(I).A Parliamentarian of long standing, Shri Gomango with intimate knowledge of rural development has engaged himself in several note-worthy endeavours for socio-economic development of weaker sections. He has keen interest in folk songs, tribal music etc. and has also compiled a book on Sabar songs in Oriya script titled “PIRADA NA KENING”.
