Ramesh Jare
Ramesh Jare is a distinguished academic and social work professional currently serving as a Professor at the School of Rural Development, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Tuljapur Off-Campus. He holds a Ph.D. (2009) from YCMOU, Nasik, and an MA in Social Work from TISS, Mumbai (1987). His research interests span local governance, women and Dalit studies, water and sanitation, and social work. Over the years, Prof. Jare has held various significant roles, including Campus Director, Deputy Director, Dean, and Professor at TISS, contributing extensively to the institute’s academic and administrative domains. He has participated in International academic exchanges in Sweden, Afghanistan, and Taiwan, enriching his global perspective on social work education.
Prof. Jare has authored and co-authored several books on caste dynamics, rural development, and alcoholism, alongside numerous research articles. His involvement in impactful projects, such as the Sardar Sarovar Rehabilitation Project, watershed management, earthquake rehabilitation, and rural sanitation initiatives, showcases his commitment to societal betterment. He has significantly contributed to academic course development for undergraduate and postgraduate programs in social work and rural development. Furthermore, he has organised and participated in numerous National and International workshops and conferences, focusing on rural development, social work, and climate change. Recognised for his expertise, he has been appointed as a National Master Assessor (PRIs) and as an external expert for academic audits, underscoring his stature in the field. He is a professional trainer and practitioner on Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and Community Engagement.
