The specialty is that Government of Karnataka as leading state in the promotion of higher education has introduced National Education Policy – 2020. We are very happy to place one more text book under New Education Policy entitled Law and Practice of Banking. The latest trends is consolidation of banks, three or four banks are merged to create a platform for reducing operational expenditure and derive economies of scale. A reader who uses the present text book will comprehend the nature of bank, banker, their functions and types. Further the changing role of commercial bank is also dealt with. As a customer of bank, one must aware of, the paying and collecting banker, honor and dis-honor cheques and legal implication therein. Different kinds of customers and account holders of a bank, the procedure and practice in opening and operating accounts by all of them is meticulously explained in the current text book.

The negotiable instrument such as promissory notes, bills of exchange, cheques, crossing and types of crossing, endorsement and different kinds of endorsement with rules of endorsement are deliberated. The fifth chapter comprehensively discusses recent developments in banking including the use of technology, digital valet, Basel norms, e-money and e-payments. Further skill development exercises are provided for the lucid understanding of the subject law and practice of banking.

The text book is presented methodically as per the NEP syllabus and also taking into account the skill development components.
