Acharya Vinoba Bhave occupied a place of pride in the annals of Indian history for his Bhoodan (Gift of the land) movement. At a young age, he immersed himself in studying the works of Maharashtra’s saints and philosophers. Life has a deeper meaning for him, as he was no ordinary soul. He was a disciple of Mahatma Gandhi. He also brought out the ‘Maharashtra Dharma’, a monthly in Marathi and became deeply involved with Gandhiji’s activities. He actively participated in India’s freedom struggle and in India’s post-independence era, started social reform movements, like the Bhoodan Movement and the Sarvodya Movement. He was posthumously honoured with Bharat Ratna.
