Case studies are a good learning experience for those who are in management functions and also the students who aspire to be tomorrow’s managers. Case studies put us in the same environment when the case happened and also gives insight to the management problems and we can ourselves find out the solutions, as if everything happens now. Even if the case study relates, to a period which has gone by, the problems to be addressed remain the same and the solutions will require a lot of analysis and decision making to come to the right conclusions.

At BVIMR, it has been a culture for the students to learn through case studies in the class room itself. So when the function Paristhithi is organized every year, especially for case study competition, there is an enormous amount of enthusiasm by the students of BVIMR as well as students from other institutions who participate in this competition. During this occasion case studies are received from all the participants and it is really heartening to note that they cover various functional areas, from attrition to Bankruptcy, from case study on Agro Processing industry to Special economic zones in India. The variety of the topics chosen by the participants is an indicator of the desire of learning by the participants.

This book is a compilation of the various cases presented by the participants on the occasion. BVIMR is of the strong opinion that these cases should not lie within the boundaries of the campus and would like to present the same to the student and academic community everywhere. It is good to have a management function and to facilitate those who have participated. But it feels much better to share the entire proceedings with the fraternity in education and the students who would like to benefit from the proceedings A number of management competitions do happen everywhere, but they do not become available to those who are interested. BVIMR strongly believes in sharing the knowledge gained and hence this compilation of the case studies presented during Paristhithi.

These cases would benefit the teaching faculty in management institutions and they can take up these cases in the classroom, or the students, who can sit in a restaurant, read the case, discuss and benefit from the same.
