It gives us great pleasure to bring out this edition of Organic Chemistry prescribed by University of Mumbai for F.Y.B.Sc. class. This book is written according to new syllabus as per NEP 2020 which will come into effect from academic year 2024-25.
The basic principles of stereochemistry is covered in Semester I. The use of IUPAC System of Nomenclature for naming all types of compounds, open chains as well as cyclic compounds is clearly explained.
The concept of conformation and its application to open and closed chain compounds is explained.
In Semester II, the theoretical aspects of Organic Chemistry such as reactive species, hybridization, etc. have been thoroughly explained. More emphasis is given to type of bond fission, reactive species formed and their relative stabilities.
Structure of alkane, alkene and alkyne is explained giving emphasis on type of bonding. The student is familiarized with types of organic reactions.
