Since the whole world has become a global village, no part of the world remains untouched with any major happening in any part of it. COVID-19 virus has put an unprecedented burden on the world economy. As the whole world is besieged with this pandemic, global economy is witnessing its amassing impact. Pandemic has already ruined the means of support and has impaired the opportunities of future growth for many.

At the national level, governments have been trying to beat the impact of the pandemic by introducing variety of economic measures with a view of preventing pervasive bankruptcies and unemployment to some extent. Data suggests that many economies have started to recover at a faster pace than anticipated after reopening from the Great Lockdown (World Economic Outlook, 2020 International Monetary Fund, April, 2020).

Pre-COVID, India had witnessed a positive growth story and the economy was moving at a steady pace of growth. To achieve accelerated growth. Indian economy was preparing itself to shift to the next level. International Monetary Fund (IMF) had also praised India for implementing important reforms to accelerate growth rate.

The outbreak of COVID-19 has impacted nations in an enormous way. This pandemic has led to a huge economic setbacks for many nations and India is no exception. From supply chain disruptions to reduced consumer activity, from the fall in trade to the near collapse of certain industries, the world has been going through one of the most difficult times. International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) chief considered this situation as the worst economic fallout since the Great Depression. COVID-19 pandemic has faded the Indian economy, it has affected every section of society whether rich or poor and every sector whether manufacturing or service sector, but the Indian government left no stone unturned to convert this adversity into opportunity through the declaration of schemes related to Atmanirbhar Bharat and Vocal for Local.

This book is an attempt to put some light on the issues related to challenges and opportunities for the Indian economy during and post COVID-19 and would highlight the impact of the measures taken by the Indian government to combat this distress to escape the Indian economy from death knell and move it towards the high growth trajectory.
