The impacts of technological and environment disasters are increasingly being felt. This book deals with these disaster in great details. The book has three sections. Section I deals with environmental disasters. It covers topics on the climate system of the earth and the energy balance theory of climate in order to comprehend, detect and predict the process that lead to climate change. The section also provides information on the working of the greenhouse effect, global warming, the effect of ozone depletion and air pollution. Section II is titled biodiversity and biosafety , and deals with issues concerning loss of biodiversity, deforestation and wetland loss. A chapter on biotechnology and genetic manipulation looks at the advantages and disadvantages of this emerging field. Various measures, including the convention on Biological Diversity are discussed. Section III deals with man-made and technological disasters, train disasters, noise pollution, toxic chemicals, hazardous waste, mining disasters, and the role of modern technology.

This book is based on the syllabus of some popular courses on disaster management. The book is designed to fulfil the needs of professionals, teachers and students in understanding the subject.
