Dr. J. Andrew Gnanaprakasam, M.Pharm., Ph.D. is a Professor and Head of the Department at Harsha College of Pharmacy, Bangalore. He holds a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Annamalai University, along with an M.Pharm. in Pharmacy Practice and a B.Pharm. & P.G. Diploma from the same University. With extensive experience in pharmacy education and clinical practice, Dr. Andrew has served in academic positions at reputed pharmacy institutions in Karnataka, including Harsha College of Pharmacy, Bharathi College of Pharmacy, TVM College of Pharmacy, and The Oxford College of Pharmacy. He has guided numerous undergraduate and postgraduate projects and has been actively involved in academic quality initiatives, including NAAC and QCI activities. His professional experience also includes clinical pharmacy practice at NH Narayana Hospital, Bangalore, and Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. His clinical responsibilities have included prescription auditing, ward rounds, identification of drug-related problems, drug information services, adverse drug reaction monitoring, drug recall activities, and patient counselling. Dr. Andrew’s research interests include pharmacy practice, clinical pharmacy, diabetes mellitus, medication safety, pharmacotherapy, drug utilisation, and patient care. His doctoral research focused on the effects of metformin therapy on serum vitamin B12 and homocysteine levels in patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus. He has authored and co-authored research publications addressing metformin-associated vitamin B12 deficiency, prescribing patterns, drug interactions, patient counselling, and other areas of clinical pharmacy practice. He has also contributed as a resource person at professional and academic programmes, presented research at National forums, coordinated academic and community-oriented initiatives, and participated in funded research projects. His academic and research activities reflect a strong commitment to evidence-based pharmacy education, clinical research, and improving patient care. Through his combined experience in academics, clinical pharmacy, research, and professional education, Dr. Andrew brings a practice-oriented perspective to pharmacy teaching and scholarly work. He is particularly committed to supporting students and young researchers in developing their knowledge and skills in clinical and research settings.
