Pharmacy is a dynamic and multidisciplinary profession that connects pharmaceutical sciences with healthcare, industry, research, and patient care. In this changing healthcare environment, a strong foundation in the fundamental concepts of pharmacy is essential for students to develop scientific knowledge, practical skills, and professional competence.
We have prepared General Pharmacy with the aim of providing a simple, systematic, and student-friendly introduction to the fundamental aspects of pharmacy, particularly for undergraduate pharmacy students. The book is designed in accordance with the PCI NEP- 2020 prescribed B.Pharm curriculum and presents essential pharmaceutical concepts in a clear and easy-tounderstand manner.
The book is organized into five units covering important areas including the history and development of pharmacy in India, the pharmacy profession, pharmacopoeias, prescriptions, pharmaceutical calculations, dosage forms, active pharmaceutical ingredients, excipients, and basic formulation principles. The book also introduces different pharmaceutical dosage forms, including powders, tablets, capsules, solutions, syrups, emulsions, suspensions, ointments, creams, pastes, gels, suppositories, and pessaries.
An important feature of the book is the integration of theory with practical pharmacy. Practical exercises involving calculations, solutions, syrups, powders and granules, suppositories, semisolids, gargles, and mouthwashes are included to helping students connect theoretical knowledge with practical pharmacy.
Our objective in writing this book is not only to provide students with basic pharmaceutical knowledge but also to develop conceptual understanding, accuracy, practical skills, scientific thinking, and professional confidence. The contents are presented in a concise and examination-oriented manner to support classroom learning, self-study, practical work, and examination preparation.
