The growth of a nation depends on the success of various organisations in different spheres of its society and economy. Successful organisations are built and sustained by ethical, entrepreneurial leaders and managers. Entrepreneurship pursues innovative paths and creates novel organisations to meet the needs of people in society. Management sustains the spirit of cooperation among people and facilitates individuals and teams to achieve superior performance. Ethics ensures that in every decision and action, the welfare of people is ensured. A combination of all these skills is, therefore, essential for our nation to face challenges arising from technological innovations, cut-throat competitions, disbelief in values, and techno-centric, complex lifestyles.
In the wake of this, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has mandated the development and implementation of a “Life Skills Curriculum” with the goal of assisting undergraduates in the acquisition of skills essential for the creation and management of organisations for the universal good. The Life Skills (Jeevan Kaushal) curriculum four distinct courses on a variety of skills. One of them is “Leadership and Management Skills,” the theme of the present book. The course aims at imparting skills necessary for students to perform their entrepreneurial, management, and leadership roles with proper regard to ethical principles.
The book is organised into five modules. The first three modules focused on leadership, management, and entrepreneurship skills and the other two on innovation and ethics. The first module discusses the qualities and skills required for leaders to influence and motivate others to work for their organisations and society. The second module discusses the key issues in management and self-management. The third module makes an attempt to nurture a creative and entrepreneurial mindset and assist in designing a business plan for pitching. The fourth module discusses emotional and social intelligence, synthesis of human and artificial intelligence and design thinking for integrative, innovative leadership. The last one makes students understand their personal values and apply ethical principles in professional and social contexts.
