The University of Mumbai has incorporated the subject Logic in the pre-law course and this step has in our opinion as teachers of the subject Logic been a boon to students. Although, it might seem to students that learning inductive and deductive logic will be obsolete when they are out of college. The study of Logic can make a permanent and deeply satisfying contribution to the intellectual life of the student.

Thomas Jefferson,

“In a Republican nation where citizens are to be led by reason and persuasion and not

by force, the art of reasoning becomes of first importance.”

We have incorporated a few test questions which are in line with the kind of questions which the University puts  before the students at the examination. Teachers can effectively test the grasp of the students by checking the representative examples. Class tutorials with student participation will help students both in demonstrating their knowledge and also prove to be a satisfying experience to the teacher who has put across the logical concepts.

We would like to recommend our book for students as it not only incorporates information (which even is available on the internet on various platforms such as youtube, blogs) but has been written after feeling the pulse of the students, their attitude and needs as we have taught law students for over a decade. We hope our learned  professors find the book a useful aid to their analysis of both logical and legal concepts.

Copi and Cohen in their book, Introduction to Logic have aptly stated that “Reason can be applied in every sphere of human affairs. The study of logic supports the application, helping us to distinguish good arguments from bad ones, advancing the quest for knowledge and understanding whatever our field of our interest may be. A common complaint about college courses is that they are not relevant to the pressing affairs of everyday life. That complaint cannot be brought against Logic, which can strengthen intellectual skills having wide and effective uses. Logic is relevant to every enterprise in which reliable judgements are sought.”
