This book on Human Resource Development is prepared in accordance with the syllabus prescribed for the IV Semester B.Com Degree Programme of Mangalore University under IVth Semester SEP. The subject is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices involved in developing human resources in modern organizations.
In today’s rapidly changing business environment, human resources are considered the most valuable asset of any organization. This course introduces students to the conceptual framework of HRD, including its meaning, functions, structure, and mechanisms. It also focuses on the design and implementation of effective HRD programs, emphasizing the importance of training, development, and performance evaluation.
The syllabus further explores various strategies for enhancing employee performance, such as counselling, mental health support, employee wellness programs, benchmarking, and retention strategies. It also addresses contemporary workplace practices like hybrid work systems and the concept of moonlighting.
In addition, the course highlights the impact of globalization on HRD, including workforce diversity, diversity management, and global assignments. Special emphasis is placed on expatriate and repatriate support and development, preparing students to understand HR practices in an international context.
