This book ‘Communication Skills’ caters to the new syllabus for Semester I/II of B.E./B.Tech. under graduate engineering and technology courses of Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur. The book is specially designed to enhance the communication skills of prospective engineers, and other professional students by giving adequate exposure to the four basic language skills viz. Chapter 1 comprises of basic communication process including verbal and non-verbal communication and barriers to communication. Chapters 2, 3 and 4 deal with various aspects of listening, speaking and reading skills respectively. Chapters 5 and 6 mainly focus on important techniques and tips required for successful group discussions and interviews. Chapter 7 discusses main types and processes of effective writing skills. Chapter 8 deals with basic grammar-structure and transformation of sentences. Please note that as per RTMNU syllabus the chapter of interview techniques is only for B.Tech. students and not for B.E. students. Similarly the chapters of writing skills and grammar are for B.E. students, not for B.Tech. students.
All the important topics have been supported by comprehensive figures to help students remember the topics through mind mapping. Each concept of the chapter has been explained with suitable and adequate examples. The review questions at the end of each chapter would help students articulate their understanding of the topics. Two sample question papers in the book would give students an idea of paper pattern. The practical manuals given at the end of the book will help not only students in smooth performance of practicals but also teachers in effective conduction of practicals. Viva questions given in the manual will help students to prepare for the practical examination.
We have made sincere attempts to make the book useful for the students of B.E./B.Tech. semester I/II.
