It gives us great pleasure to present the First Edition of “Organizational Development” designed exclusively for the students of S.Y.B.COM. (Management Studies) Specialization (HR) as per the NEP 2020–based syllabus of the University of Mumbai for the academic year 2025-26.
Organizational Development (OD) has emerged as a vital discipline in shaping modern workplaces that are adaptive, peoplecentric, and future-ready. In an era of constant change driven by technology, competition, and evolving workforce expectations organizations cannot rely on traditional structures and practices. They require systematic approaches that enable continuous improvement, healthy culture-building, and meaningful engagement of people. This textbook has been developed with this purpose in mind: to provide learners with a clear, simple, and comprehensive understanding of OD and Organizational Diagnosis, along with practical insights into interventions, team-building, and contemporary strategic OD practices.
The content is organized into two modules, each covering the essential foundations and applications of OD. Module I introduces learners to the fundamentals—concepts, assumptions, values, diagnostic techniques, power dynamics, and ethics. Module II advances into OD interventions, evaluation methods, team-building frameworks, and strategic organizational development approaches.
